A revolutionary coffee maker that brings together the technology developed by Illycaffè with the design expertise of ALESSI. Designed by Michele De Lucchi, Pulcina represents a small yet substantial design innovation: thanks to the internal shape of its specially designed boiler, Pulcina automatically stops the coffee flow at precisely the right moment, before the drink develops a bitter taste. The spout, reminiscent of a little chick’s beak, ensures the coffee is poured cleanly and without dripping.
Pulcina was born from the creative mind of its designer at Chioso, his private studio on the shores of the enchanting Lake Maggiore — a place that was once a large chicken coop. “Lots of chickens, hens, cockerels and chicks. They all succumbed to an epidemic in the year I was born, which allows me to say, with a sense of humour, that I am the only surviving chicken,” the designer remarks. In fact, he drew inspiration from the morphology of mountains to create this innovative coffee maker: its stepped surface evokes contour lines — the closed lines used to represent relief in maps and technical drawings.
