‘My grandfather represents so many other soldiers who couldn't return from the war and share their story."___Xavi Coral
With the outbreak of the Civil War, Josep Trullàs decides to volunteer to defend the Republic, leaving behind his family and a promising future in Terrassa. His is the story of the Republican army's defeat, which he experiences firsthand in every battle, on every front. From Aragon, through the Battle of the Ebro, to the beaches of Sant Cebrià, and a long, harsh post-war period that becomes an even crueller hell than the war itself.
This narrative also embodies a commitment to love that only arrives through letters, the strength of friendship forged on the battlefield, and the challenge of death that looms with every step. These are emotions experienced with the intensity of an added time that is running out, where only those who learn to dodge bullets will survive. War is waged by anonymous individuals, with ordinary lives thrust into extraordinary circumstances.
A novel written collaboratively: Josep Trullàs wrote from the front lines every day, attempting to capture all the experiences and horror he witnessed with his own eyes. Eighty years later, his grandson, the journalist Xavi Coral, recounts his grandfather's life in this literary debut, aiming to do justice to all those who did not have the opportunity to return and share their testimony.
